Wellfleet is world famous for its briny and succulent oysters – the focus of the Wellfleet OysterFest held every October. The name “Wellfleet” is variously thought to come from a brand of oyster popular in England in the late 1700s or from “Whale Fleet” after the whaling industry that drove the early economy.
