The future of Wellfleet was changed forever in 1961 when the Cape Cod National Seashore was established, protecting nearly 40 miles of Atlantic Ocean beachfront property.  In Wellfleet the National Seashore includes all of Wellfleet’s ocean facing beaches as well as a significant portion of its Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecoregion.  This national treasure also comprises many of Wellfleet’s distinctive freshwater kettle ponds.

The National Park Service administers Marconi Beach in Wellfleet and the other Wellfleet ocean beaches within the Cape Cod National Seashore are administered by the town of Wellfleet.  Despite significant deed restrictions, homes located within the National Seashore in Wellfleet are in very high demand.
