Ward Two History
In Revolutionary times, Cobble Hill served as a fort and later the site of the Joseph Barrell Mansion. The estate later morphed into what is now McLean Hospital although the facility was later relocated to the suburbs and the mansion and the hill razed to the ground. The Thirsty Scholar is a favorite local hangout on Beacon Street known for its cozy tavern as well as as the occasional book reading.
