Spring Hill Real Estate

Spring Hill is a residential neighborhood in Somerville that draws its name from the ridge on which it sits overlooking the city. Many of the homes in Spring Hill enjoy panoramic views of Cambridge, Boston, and the hills of Arlington and Belmont. Parks and playgrounds are abundant in the area and ideal for young families and working professionals. The neighborhood comprises a large selection of homes ranging from generously proportioned single family homes with historic character to multi-family condo structures. In addition to striking Victorians, Spring Hill also boasts homes in the Italianate, Gothic Revival and Queen Anne architectural styles. The area is home to classic triple-deckers which have been renovated to include all modern conveniences and come on the market as either single-family or condo units. Spring Hill is particularly appealing to buyers because of its convenient location and relatively affordable housing prices in comparison to nearby Davis Square.  Read more about Spring Hill real estate.

More About Spring Hill Real Estate

 Spring Hill Location

Spring Hill is in the central section of Somerville, not far from Davis Square, Porter Square, and Cambridge. It is roughly bounded by Highland Avenue, Elm Street, Somerville Avenue, and Willow Avenue. Spring Hill is served by the MBTA Stations Porter Square and Davis Square on the Red Line to Cambridge and Downtown Boston with a Green Line Extension planned in the adjacent Winter Hill neighborhood.

Spring Hill History

Spring Hill is a drumlin — or a hill composed of material deposited from glacial activity. Boston and surrounding areas have many such drumlin landmarks. Largely agrarian, the Spring Hill area wasn’t fully developed until the 1840s. The neighborhood is now home to Somerville Hospital which opened in 1891 and was also the neighborhood haunt of the notorious Winter Hill gang leader, Howie Winter.
