Orleans Pond Homes
Located at the inner elbow of Cape Cod, Orleans is recognized as the starting point of the world famous Nauset Beach but also boasts a number of sparkling kettle ponds in the western part of town. The kettle ponds formed when the glaciers melted thousands of years ago. In Orleans these ponds range from small wooded pools to large ponds that span more than ten acres in size.
Of the 60 freshwater ponds in Orleans, Bakers Pond and Pilgrim and Crystal Lakes have public access for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Pilgrim Lake serves as the breeding ground for the herring that fight their way from the Atlantic Ocean through Pleasant Bay and Lonnies Pond to reach these clear waters to spawn. Compared to other Cape communities, Orleans has a robust inventory of homes fronting ponds combining scenic views with deeded beach rights.
