Orient Heights

Orient Heights is a vibrant neighborhood tucked away in East Boston. Wrapped around the Belle Isle Inlet, the neighborhood serves as a gateway to the larger city and is currently part of a major development project at the site of the old Suffolk Downs Horse Racing Track. The redevelopment calls for mixed-use buildings, including destination retail, residential properties, offices, innovation labs, and hotels.

The Orient Heights name was inspired by its elevated terrain and eastern position relative to Downtown Boston. The neighborhood’s rich history is reflected in its narrow streets and Colonial and Victorian-era houses nestled side-by-side. Many homes still feature the intricate woodwork and spacious porches that were the hallmark of the era. Modern condominiums are also springing up as the redevelopment progresses.

In addition to its historic properties, Orient Heights is home to other notable landmarks, including the Bennington Street Burying Ground and the Baker Congregational Church, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby Constitution Beach is a popular spot for both relaxation and recreation, offering endless views of the shoreline and a variety of outdoor activities as well as dining options.

Orient Heights is served by the Orient Heights MBTA station on the Blue line as well as multiple buses that take commuters into Downtown and surrounding areas of Boston.
