Neponset/Port Norfolk

Neponset/Port Norfolk is a historic fishing port, located in Dorchester just across the Neponset River from Milton and Quincy. The neighborhood encompasses several distinct sections including a more isolated peninsula. It is also considered one of Boston’s Beach neighborhoods, home to Tenean Beach. Port Norfolk is a coastal section of the neighborhood known for its Greek Revival and Italianate homes almost completely surrounded by the Southeast Expressway and the mouth of the Neponset River. The area’s isolation contributes to Port Norfolk’s charm as its own resort colony. The Neponset and Pope’s Hill areas are more inland and offer a variety of architectural styles, including more classic Queen Anne and the Triple Deckers that have come to dominate much of New England.

Neponset/Port Norfolk is one of the southernmost neighborhoods of Dorchester within easy commuting distance of Downtown Boston. Adjacent neighborhoods to the north include Fields Corner; Clam Point; and Commercial Point while Ashmont and Cedar Grove are located to the west. The neighborhood hugs the Neponset River along the southern edge, across which are the city of Quincy and town of Milton.
