Marconi Beach Wellfleet

marconi beach - south wellfleet

Marconi Beach is located in South Wellfleet in the Cape Cod National Seashore.  It is the southernmost Wellfleet ocean beach and the only one operated by the National Park Service.  Marconi Beach draws its name from Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi who transmitted the first transatlantic wireless communication between the United States and England from this location in 1903.  During World War II this area was home to Camp Wellfleet, an anti-aircraft training school.

Today, Marconi Beach is one of the Cape’s most visited beaches and known for its wide sandy shoreline.  The beach area features restrooms, showers and is staffed by life guards in season.  Surfers and boogie boarders enjoy the breaking waves at Marconi Beach.  The Cape Cod Rail Trail passes through the Marconi Park and is a popular biking destination.
