Long Pond Harwich

Long Pond Harwich

Long Pond in Harwich, MA, claims the distinction of being the Cape's largest lake as well as inland body of water.  A former landing area and base for seaplanes, the freshwater pond is ideal for swimming as well as a favorite of kayakers and boating enthusiasts because of its size and depth.   The pond even boasts a boat ramp for easier launches as well as two beaches:  Wixon Memorial Beach on the east end and Fernandes Bog located off Cahoon's Drive.  Both beaches provide a quiet, safe setting for families and small children to splash in the clear waters and enjoy a variety of other water activities.  Parking is surprisingly easy with either a resident sticker or daily fee.

The pond's 6.4 miles of shoreline is only moderately developed with a mix of year-round homes as well as seasonal cottages and beach houses.  Long Pond is conveniently located southwest of Route 137 and east of the Seymour and Hinckley's Ponds on Long Pond Road.
