Hamilton Real Estate

Located 23 miles northeast of Boston, Hamilton is a woodsy town that offers residents an abundance of outdoor riches. Located on the North Shore, Hamilton is conveniently situated on the Atlantic seacoast with its conservation lands, beaches, and numerous boating options. The town has a rich equestrian heritage with its many horse farms, trails and the Myopia Hunt Club which holds frequent events. Despite its fox hunts, polo matches and other upper-class pursuits, Hamilton is surprisingly affordable in comparison to its neighboring towns.

The community offers ranch, Capes, and farmhouses in addition to more luxurious properties. Hamilton is also home to many historic properties distinguished by old stone walls and bucolic landscapes. The town spans approximately 15 miles with just 7800 residents. Hamilton maintains close ties to neighboring Wenham, sharing a top-rated school system, library and other services. More About Hamilton

Hamilton Location

Hamilton is 5 miles inland from Massachusetts Bay with both its eastern and western borders on water. The Ipswich River is to the west and Chebacco Lake and other small ponds lie east.  Hamilton is bordered by Ipswich on the north; Wenham to the south; Manchester-by-the-Sea to the southeast and Topsfield to the west.

The Hamilton/Wenham Station provides MBTA commuter rail service to Boston's North Station on the Newburyport/Rockport Line and is walking distance from the town hall. No major highways pass through the town limits, but Hamilton still maintains easy access to high-quality medical facilities and shops and services.

Hamilton Recreation

Hamilton’s geography and waterways are a big attraction for families. Its shoreline and rural setting offer outdoor enthusiasts a number of options from hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing to swimming and boating. The Myopia Hunt Club, in addition to running equestrian events also houses a golf course which has hosted the US Open four times. The notoriously difficult course ironically lays claim to having the highest winning score in US Open history during the 1901 match.

Hamilton History

Hamilton was incorporated in 1793, named for Alexander Hamilton whose portrait became the town seal. The iconic Myopia Hunt Club, which was good-naturedly named for its nearsighted founders, moved to Gibney Farm in Hamilton in the 1880s. Beginning as a tennis and baseball club, The Club later instituted polo, fox hunts, and golf as new members built large summer estates in the area and brought their specific tastes to bear on the area. General George S. Patton, the World War II General resided in Hamilton and has a park named for him. The TV host for “This Old House,” Kevin O’Connor lives in a renovated 1894 Queen Anne style home in South Hamilton.
