Germantown

Germantown is a diverse neighborhood in Quincy that sits on a small peninsula that was originally known as Shed’s Neck. The neighborhood draws its name from a failed business venture in the 18th century when German artisans immigrated to the area to produce glass and textiles. Palmer Street is the main thoroughfare running through the neighborhood although there is little commercial activity in Germantown.

The community is popular with both families and retirees because of the active Germantown Neighborhood Center run by the South Shore YMCA, which provides a number of year-round programs and activities. The waterfront location offers an ideal spot for children to swim, fish, and ride their bikes. Select homes enjoy water views as well as easy access to the beaches and parks. Waterfront homes in Germantown are typically more affordable in comparison to other coastal neighborhoods in the greater Boston area.

Germantown is surrounded by Town River Bay on the west and Rock Island Cove on the east.  Adjacent neighborhoods include Adams Shore and Houghs Neck.
