Chatham Real Estate

chatham real estate

Chatham is an upscale resort town occupying the southeast “elbow” of Cape Cod. Originally a prosperous fishing and whaling center, Chatham still is home to many 18th century buildings which add to its charm. Some of the most sought after properties are renovated captains’ homes that take advantage of the harbor and ocean views.

The town offers six saltwater beaches fronting Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic Ocean and is perhaps best known for the Chatham Lighthouse Beach.  Surrounded by water at the elbow of Cape Cod, Chatham is a unique and beautiful place like no other.  Read more about Chatham real estate.

More About Chatham Real Estate

Chatham Location

Chatham is bordered by Harwich to the west, Pleasant Bay and Orleans to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Nantucket Sound to the south.  Villages include Chatham proper, Chatham Port, North Chatham, West Chatham, and South Chatham.   Approximately 34 miles east of the Sagamore Bridge, Chatham is 85 miles southeast of Boston.

Chatham Community Summary

This pristine expanse of sand is famed for nature walks out to Monomoy Island as well as views of the daily migration routes of Chatham seals.   At the heart of the beach, is the much photographed Chatham Light -- an active lighthouse at the Coast Guard Station that aids in the navigation of Chatham Waters.

Chatham is also well known for its pedestrian-friendly downtown which provides a myriad of shops, galleries, restaurants and inns.  During the summer, residents enjoy concerts in the gazebo on Main Street.  Distinctive boutiques specializing in antiques, resort clothing,  fine art, jewelry, and nautical treasures provide nearly one mile of shopping.  Seafood restaurants are also popular destinations fueled by the abundance of fresh catch.  The elegant Chatham Bars Inn provides spectacular water views and a Gatsby-like setting for tourists and residents alike.

For many residents, Chatham is a year-round community offering a “First Night” during the holiday season as well as the “Spring Fling” fashion show in May to benefit various charitable organizations.

Iconic Chatham Fish Pier Signals Summer is Here

While this summer may be a bit different than summers past, the iconic Chatham Fish Pier remains a long-standing tribute to the beginning of the summer season. The Town of Chatham is, no doubt, the Cape’s largest tourist destination, and most tourists in Chatham are drawn at least once to experience the excitement of the Fish Pier Observation Deck. It just so happens that the peak tourism season on Cape Cod coincides with the peak commercial fishing season. The site is home to not on... Read More

The Oldest House in Chatham

The oldest house in Chatham is about to get a new address and a new purpose. Believed to have been built sometime around the late 1600s to early 1700s, the old one-room home can be traced back to the son of the town’s founder, William Nickerson. After failed efforts to sell the property, the owner recently agreed to donate the oldest section of the home to save it from likely demolition. According to records, the home may have been built around 1700, but it was added onto several time... Read More
