Centerville is a picturesque village located on the south side of the town of Barnstable, recognized for its sweeping waterfront landscapes. Rich in history, Centerville was originally called “Chequaquet” by the Wampanoag Indians and was later renamed “Centerville” in the early 19th century after a period of extended growth.
Beaches include the long, wide Craigville Beach on the Nantucket Sound equipped with bathrooms and showers as well as spectacular views of Martha’s Vineyard. Lesser known Covell Beach enjoys many of the same amenities as Craigville Beach but offers privacy and relative seclusion because of its resident-only status. Long Beach offers a secluded experience due to its has limited parking. Centerville is also home to a number of inlets, bays, and winding creeks as well as Lake Wequaquet further inland.
Many well-preserved Captains’ homes line Main Street while new home buyers also have their choice of a mix of capes, contemporaries and ranch-style homes with water views as well as quintessential Cape Cod cranberry bogs. Green Dunes is a south-side community located directly on Nantucket Sound with a private beach. Everyone enjoys a visit to the Centerville's iconic Old Country Store and Four Seas Ice Cream.
