More About Bound Brook Island
Bound Brook Island Location
If you’re searching for a place to escape from it all, consider heading to Bound Brook Island. Found in northwest Wellfleet, Bound Brook is a secluded spot where most of the land belongs to the Cape Cod National Seashore. To get to Bound Brook Island Beach you take Bound Brook Island Road in Wellfleet. Bound Brook Island can be reached from Coles Neck Road or Pamet Point Road.
If you’re up for a bit of an adventure, Bound Brook is a great place to explore. The Bound Brook Beach is, quite possibly, one of Cape Cod’s most sheltered spots. It’s a bumpy, narrow road to the beach, but you can also hike it in less than a half-hour.
Bound Brook Island History
The beach isn’t the only thing to see and explore on Wellfleet’s Bound Brook Island. You may also come across some historic homes, some of which date back centuries.
The restored Atwood-Higgins House is one home that still stands in the area. It’s considered the oldest remaining house in the Cape Cod National Seashore.
The Baker-Biddle property includes four buildings that date back anywhere from the late 1600s to the mid 1800s. Perhaps one of the more unusual structures in terms of its architecture, however, is the entirely modern Hatch House.
It’s certainly not one of the older properties, but it is unique and holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Another historic location to check out is former Bound Brook Island School. The school building is long gone, but you can follow a trail to a large rock memorial. It marks the spot of the old schoolhouse on the hill, which was built in the mid 1800s.
