Race Point Named Top Beach
Ranked one of the top beaches in the nation, Race Point offers a wide stretch of sand in Provincetown. Officially part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, you’ll also find dunes, bike trails and room for surfing.
The honors come courtesy of the Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards from Tripadvisor. The website came up with its list based on ratings and reviews shared by fellow travelers.
For 2020, the website puts Race Point Beach on its list of the nation’s top 25 beaches. Race Point comes in at an admirable number 21 on the list, which also features several Florida and Hawaiian beaches.
Visitors describe Race Point as a fun beach to spot seals during the summer season, and a fun place for birding during the winter months. It’s also described as a great place to take a walk along the sand and dip your toes in the water.
The water is known to be a bit rough at Race Point, so it’s not always a great place for inexperienced swimmers to get too far out in the water. Still, Race Point offers plenty of room for wading in the shallow sections of the water, plus the beach is also said to be a great place for sunbathing.
Along with traditional beach features, Race Point is also home to the Old Harbor Life Saving Station. It’s open daily during the afternoons. There’s also the opportunity to visit the Province Lands Visitor Center, which is found close to the parking lot.
When you go keep in mind that a beach parking sticker is a necessity. Options exist for residents and non-residents on a seasonal, weekly or daily basis.
Located just off Route 6 in Provincetown, the beach additionally offers seasonal showers, restrooms and changing rooms. Lifeguards are on duty during the busy season.
