Our Favorite Chatham Beaches

lighthouse beach chathamServing up plenty of outdoor fun and recreation for those of all ages, there are several Chatham area beaches you simply don’t want to miss. Here are just a few of our favorite beaches, popular for a variety of reasons.

Cockle Cove Beach

Cockle Cove Beach, in particular, is known for its long stretch of sand and small waves. The beach is popular for windsurfing and boating, plus there’s lots of room to simply spread out and enjoy the great views.

Found in South Chatham, the warm weather makes it ideal for windsurfing and for swimming. The soft sand is also great for kids, plus the waves are calm. Kayakers also consider Cockle Cove Beach a favorite, plus there are lifeguards on duty at the saltwater beach.

Hardings Beach

A perfect location for taking up a game of Frisbee, volleyball or even beach bocce, Hardings Beach is also great for launching a kayak or sailboat to places such as nearby Monomoy Island.

In addition, the beach also features great sand and small waves, along with a large parking lot. If you feel like a short walk, don’t miss out on taking the trail behind the beach that leads to a better view of Stage Harbor Lighthouse.

Lighthouse Beach

In comparison, Lighthouse Beach gains its name from the nearby Chatham Light, but is popular itself for its large stretch of sand and its convenience to the downtown area. The beach allows for nature walks plus some pretty spectacular views watching the many fishing boats and getting a closer look at the local seals.

Keep in mind, though, the southern tip of the beach is closed to swimming due to its strong currents and you won’t find lifeguards on duty here, either. Even so, many consider Lighthouse Beach one of the best on Cape Cod.
