stage harbor - chatham ma

From its landmark lighthouse to its historic homes, there’s plenty to uncover when you set out to explore Stage Harbor. The Stage Harbor Lighthouse, also known as Harding’s Beach Lighthouse, may just be one of the most recognizable sites in this part of Cape Cod.

It’s actually the region’s youngest lighthouse. Constructed in the late 1800s at the entrance to Stage Harbor, the lighthouse is privately owned today, but you may still find time to see it during the occasional tour. It does open to the public during a designated week in May.

It’s still possible to see the lighthouse from afar, though, with some of the best views possible from Harding’s Beach. You may also be able to get a good view from the other side of the harbor.

wrinkle point - west dennis ma

With enticing views of the Bass River and Nantucket Sound, the West Dennis community of Wrinkle Point still remains a delightful location, years after its humble beginnings. The quirky name is said to originate from the “wrinkles”, or rather winkles that were once so plentiful that locals cooked up and dined on the tiny, edible snails right from the shore.

Now decades later, the private community is home to a clubhouse overlooking the river, a swimming pool and two private beaches. You’ll also find a marina with the benefit of direct boating access to Nantucket Sound.

Some homes in the community even have their own private boat docks right on the Bass River. In addition, you’ll also find some small boats for community members to use.

oysters

One of the best reasons to come to Cape Cod isn’t necessarily for what you’ll see, but rather what you’ll experience. More specifically, what you’ll taste. Enjoyed for generations, Cotuit oysters are a true favorite on the Cape, and also well beyond its waters.

Now one of the oldest brand-named oysters in the entire nation, the Cotuit Oyster Company has been farming Cotuit oysters on Cotuit Bay for more than 150 years. They’re distinct, the company claims, due to their sweet and briny flavor, which certainly sets them apart from almost any other oyster in the world.

In fact, it’s said this particular type of oyster is not only simply known across the world, but in demand across the globe. The flavor likely comes due to the location in which the oysters

Route 28 is said to heavily influence some of those tourists, as a number of new shops have popped up along the roadway in recent years. That economic development could soon get another boost, thanks to a major road project.

Federal and state transportation money is funding a new multi-phase highway upgrade, running all the way through Dennis. Planned additions include wide new bike lanes and sidewalks running alongside both sides of the road. In addition, crews will be revamping pedestrian safety and bringing the sidewalks
