The starting point for countless excursions, MacMillan Pier in Provincetown is a true transportation hub of the Outer Cape. A number of excursions depart on a daily basis here, taking people out to explore the National Seashore, the Harbor and the Stellwagen National Marine Sanctuary.

Located just a short stroll off Commercial Street in Provincetown, the pier is often buzzing with activity, from planned tours and sunset cruises to ferries and fishing charters. One of the most popular attractions for visitors is taking one of the whale-watching tours that commonly depart from MacMillan Pier.

Commercial fishermen come into the pier too, while smaller commercial vessels use the floating docks closer to shore. The pier also presents a place for party boats and sailboats to take off and return.

On the west side of the pier you’ll find fast-ferry service leading to Boston, where it’s common for passengers to get on and off the ferries, sometimes by the hundreds. Even if you don’t depart yourself, it’s a fun place to watch boats come in and out of the harbor.

Apart from boat tours and excursions, the pier presents an ideal location to catch fireworks on New Year’s or the 4th of July. It’s also a popular spot for some less likely events like painting classes overlooking the boats and the water.

You’re sure to find something fun to do at MacMillan Pier. Often there are small shops and outdoor booths set up to sell unique gifts and souvenirs. You’ll find vendors and artists selling locally-made crafts, arts and other goods at one of the emerging artist trap sheds.

As well, you’ll also find food stands and some restaurants in the area to catch a bite to eat. Not far from the ferry is a pirate museum too, containing relics of an old shipwreck.
