Not every buyer is the same, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to finding the best neighborhood or town to fit your needs. From walkability to affordability, we uncover some of the hottest South Shore towns for every generation.
Quincy
Millennials don’t always have as much money to spend, but they also want to find a home that delivers what they want for their lifestyle. That’s why Quincy can be such a great choice. It’s possible to find a single-family home priced around $500,000 that’s close enough to the beach and the T.
It’s a hip place to live and enjoy local nightlife. You’ll find a bustling restaurant scene, paired with new condos and apartments in revitalized Quincy Center.
Hingham
While the median home price in Hingham is about double that of Quincy, Hingham is a great choice for Gen X. Real estate agents often see buyers come to Hingham when they’re ready to give up that city lifestyle. Even at that, residents are only about a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown.
The family-friendly town commonly offers annual festivals and parades. Hingham may be a small town, but it’s packed with history and things to do. There’s also a public beach and marina. Those who enjoy being a bit more active can always get in some hiking, biking, fishing and boating.
Duxbury
Older buyers often want to downsize, and they’ll find that with single-level homes or condos of Duxbury. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy life without the big crowds. There’s still plenty of fun in Duxbury, though, from local restaurants to boutiques.
In Duxbury it’s common to spot people out on the beach clam digging during low tide, browsing through some of the city’s oldest homes turned museums, and enjoying annual gatherings like the Duxbury Food & Wine Festival.
