The holiday season is quickly approaching, and that means it’s almost time for one of the best Cape Cod holiday traditions to begin. Each year, Gardens Aglow lights up the grounds of Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich.

Gardens Aglow officially kicks of the Friday after Thanksgiving. From late afternoon through evening guests are invited to enjoy light displays throughout the gardens. The event also includes a number of activities and holiday-themed décor throughout the museum’s grounds and its galleries.

Kids are invited to visit Santa in a vintage Model T or take a spin on a vintage carousel. There’s also a model train display up for the event and families can have some fun roasting marshmallows in the fire pits for a special treat. You can even pick up a bite to eat at the café.

Described as an “illuminated winter wonderland”, Gardens Aglow consists of a full 12-miles of lights, plus it includes holiday-themed performances and music each evening. Past festivities have also included a reindeer scavenger hunt and a special exhibit gallery featuring Mrs. Claus at the North Pole.

Gardens Aglow does require tickets to attend. Admission this year is $20 for adults and $10 for kids. Children ages two and younger are free. There’s also a discount for members. You can purchase tickets in advance online.

The Gardens Aglow event runs each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through mid-December. It also includes some additional evenings set for late December.

Even apart from Gardens Aglow, Heritage Museums & Gardens is a great place to visit while on Cape Cod. The site offers walking trails and boasts the largest public garden in the region. It also offers special exhibits and collections for visitors to enjoy, providing a fantastic way to see and experience something entirely new on your next visit to Cape Cod.
