Exploring Harwich Port’s Three Harbors

To really experience a taste of life in New England, there is nothing like exploring the harbors of Harwich Port.  Located on the Lower Cape, or rather the elbow of Cape Cod, this quaint Massachusetts community is one of seven villages in the town of Harwich. Harwich Port offers some of the best opportunities for outdoor recreation in the area.  Lounge along some of the warmest beaches of Cape Cod, cast a line or take to the water from one of the area’s three harbors.  All three offer their own unique and distinctive opportunities for residents to explore time and time again.

Saquatucket Harbor

By size alone, Saquatucket offers the most diverse opportunities.  This is the location of the Cape’s largest municipal marina.  It’s also the place where you’ll want to head to catch the Freedom Ferry to Nantucket, or to schedule a unique seal watch, giving you the opportunity to view native wildlife in action.  If fishing is your sport, or if you just want to experience it for the day, you can also reserve a fishing charter here.

Wind down in the evening, or relax an afternoon away, dining right on the harbor.  This is truly a unique location, and one that you’ll want to repeat again and again.  For decades, the legendary Brax Landing Restaurant has lured people in with its succulent seafood and picturesque views.

Allen Harbor

Next, head to Allen Harbor, home of the esteemed Allen Harbor Yacht Club.  This private club is family-friendly, and operates every month of the year.  You’ll find moorings, docks and even a tennis court.  Most of all, though, the location is all about yachting.  Allen Harbor is also home to the town’s boat lodge.  Keep in mind that this harbor is best for small craft.  This is due to the harbor’s narrow entrance.

Wychmere Harbor

Finally, luxury knows no bounds, surrounded by million dollar homes and majestic views.  Wychmere is the third harbor of Harwich Port, and offers up moorings for both sailboats and powerboats.  Looking around the area, it’s hard to imagine Wychmere was once a coastal pond!  More than a century ago, workers dug a channel out to the sea, creating the visual oasis that exists today.  Residents now enjoy a park on the northern side and a pier on the eastern side.

Whether by boat, or by land, you will want to come back again and again to explore all that the three harbors of Harwich Port have to offer.
