A popular seaside destination in the summer months, Woods Hole continues to attract visitors with its appealing arts community, shopping opportunities, dining, fishing and marine research. This Cape Cod village may be small in size, but it is large with opportunity.
Especially popular during the warmer months of the year, the tiny village boasts a number of deep-water harbors, plus museums, beaches and attractions. Once considered more of a pass through for ferry travelers, Woods Hole now invites visitors to try out its waterfront eateries, explore its scientific offerings and enjoy its beaches.
The town is so charming, Smithsonian Magazine once put Woods Hole on its list of the “Best Small Towns in America to Visit”. At the time, the magazine noted the appeal of visiting the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, the oldest aquarium in the nation, and the more than a century old, Marine Biological Laboratory.
In fact, Woods Hole provides a home base for some world-renowned science research facilities. Other notable additions for the town include the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the long-running Woods Hole Film Festival and the recreation options of Shining Sea Bikeway.
Those of all ages are also sure to enjoy the fun of the Anything-But-a-Boat Race. Beaches and freshwater ponds are also a big draw of visiting Woods Hole.
Simply a short walk from the middle of town, Nobska Beach is a great place to go swimming, or to take in views of the Nobska Point Lighthouse and Vineyard Sound. One of the popular spots in Woods Hole The Knob. It’s not only a great place for birding or taking a nature walk, but it also serves up some sensational views of Buzzards Bay and Quissett Harbor.
Stoney Beach, meanwhile, offers up a fantastic location for spotting starfish and hermit crabs, with shallow enough water to accommodate families. You’ll find Woods Hole in Falmouth, on the Cape’s southwest corner.
