Eastham Named Best Beach Town in Massachusetts
The results are in, and Eastham just took top honors when it comes to its beaches. In fact, Eastham was just named the best beach town in Massachusetts.
Stacker.com came up with the ranking, based on a variety of factors. Analysts first looked at locations with at least one beach on the EPA’s National List of Beaches. The list only includes beaches that are open to the public and can be used recreationally.
The thousands of beaches that qualified were then broken down by a ranking system that took into account the number of beaches monitored through something called the BEACH Act. The ranking also considered access to beach-related businesses, the total shoreline of the beaches, and Zillow median home prices.
In Massachusetts alone, that comes to more than 400 EPA-monitored beaches, and more than 121 miles of shoreline. When everything was considered, Eastham took the top spot for the state.
The website mentions there are 14 beaches in Eastham, and the average swim season lasts 97 days. Eastham has an average county summer temperature of 71 degrees and a median home price that’s under $739,000.
As for the rest of the list, Quincy came in at number two, followed by Edgartown, Brewster, and Falmouth. This isn’t the first ranking where Eastham has done well. The infamous Dr Beach previously put Eastham’s Coast Guard Beach high on his own list of the “Top 10” beaches.
Last year, Coast Guard Beach took the number ten spot, and was noted as the only New England beach to make the list. You can often get some great photos of Nauset Marsh and even the ocean from the Old Coast Guard Station, for which the beach is named.
About a mile away, Nauset Light Beach in Eastham is another good spot for photos. It’s also known for its cool water and nice sand.
