Popular for its bay beaches, its deep-sea fishing and its quaint location, historic East Dennis is filled with generations of charm. Steep in history, it’s not hard to take a step back in time when visiting or laying down roots in the region.
As one of the five villages of Dennis, East Dennis is known for its historic homes and businesses. Generations ago, the old Shiverick’s Shipyard sat in East Dennis. A plaque now marks the spot, plus another plaque indications the location of the very first salt works business in the area.
The landmark Evangelical Free Church still stands on Center Street, as do a number of historic old homes. In fact, many locals in East Dennis can trace their families on the Cape back for generations.
The coveted Sesuit Harbor House dates back to the 1700s. Once a grand Cape Cod home, the property is now a popular inn for the Dennis area. There’s also a more than century-old library standing in the village.
Historic homes and businesses aren’t all you’ll find in East Dennis. You’ll also see a mix of newer construction, including some unique residences close to the beach. Residents and visitors flock to Sea Street Beach for its soft sand and small waves, plus there’s also the delight of kid-friendly Cold Storage Beach with its clean sand and shallow water.
Crowes Pasture, meanwhile, is known for its nearby walking trails. For added recreation, golfers are sure to delight in the public Dennis Pines Golf Course. As for water adventures, the village offers up that too.
