Country Living Names Sandwich to Prettiest Towns to Visit in Winter

If you truly want to visit some spectacular towns this winter, you’ll want to start making your plans now to visit New England. The region has seven of the prettiest towns, at least that’s according to Country Living.

One of them is Sandwich. The ranking is part of the publication’s list of “40 of the Prettiest American Towns to Visit During the Winter”. Sandwich came in at number 38 on the list.

According to Country Living, it’s no secret Sandwich gets high marks as a beach destination during the warmer months of the year, but it’s also lovely during the winter months. As the oldest town on Cape Cod, Sandwich was first incorporated in the 1600s.

Country Living specifically mentions the town’s scenic boardwalk, which it points out is a scenic spot to visit any time of year. The boardwalk extends more than 1,300 feet across marshland, dunes, and Mill Creek.

Named after Sandwich, England, more than 200 buildings in the Cape Cod town are covered by a National Historic designation. The town is home to the Sandwich Glass Museum, plus also Heritage Museums & Gardens. If the weather holds out, Sandwich also contains miles of hiking trails, leading past cranberry bogs, ponds, creeks, woodlands, and marshes.

Nantucket also made the list this year. Country Living points out the town’s annual Christmas Stroll, its low crowds, and its off-season pricing are also positives during the winter season.

Along with Sandwich and Nantucket, some other New England towns that made the list included towns in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Vermont. The number one mention went to Leavenworth, Washington.

The town is said to resemble a typical Bavarian Village and contains its own nutcracker museum and nearby ski resorts. According to Country Living, it’s right behind Germany in terms of locations to visit at Christmastime.
