Already a popular beach with locals and visitors, Coast Guard Beach in Eastham is now getting high marks nationally, as well. The local beach was just named to the top ten by Stephen Leatherman, most commonly known by beach goers and vacationers as “Dr. Beach”.

Each year Dr. Beach comes up with his list of the nation’s best beaches, ranking them by dozens of different criteria. For 2017, Coast Guard Beach notably gained the number six spot, the only Cape beach to crack the top ten list, with a majority of the other beaches located in such tourist hotspots as Florida, Hawaii and California.

Coast Guard Beach, of course, is known widely as a premiere swimming beach during the summer season on Cape Cod. Locals and visitors flock to the sand and water during the months of mid-June through Labor Day. While parking is oftentimes somewhat limited, there is a free shuttle from a parking lot on Doane Road, which transports people to the beach.

The busy location is not only large, but there’s plenty of space for beachgoers to spread out, with a boardwalk running right to the beach. With large Atlantic Ocean waves, the location is also ideal for boogie-boarders and surfers, plus the soft sand makes it easy for those of all ages to enjoy while lifeguards keep an eye on the beach during the summer season.

The location also features room for beach volleyball, plus it’s often a prime spot for seal watching. In addition, the beach presents an ideal setting for nesting plovers and terns, especially during the early spring and early summer season where wildlife viewing is in full swing.

Within the National Seashore, Coast Guard Beach is clean and inviting, a superb location for taking a walk along the sandy shoreline or taking in some watersports and plentiful outdoor recreation.
