Chequessett Yacht & Country Club In Wellfleet
Imagine a country club, sailing club, plus tennis courts and golf all wrapped up into one. That’s what you’ll find at the Chequessett Yacht & Country Club in Wellfleet.
Found within the Cape Cod National Seashore, this Outer Cape destination offers a variety of programs to fit multiple sports and activities. Locals will tell you this club is much more than just a club and golf course, though. For the Wellfleet community it also serves the role of a community and family rec center.
This semi-private club offers nine holes of semi-links golf, with tees designed to also work with 18 holes. There’s also a Pro Shop for both golf and tennis, along with golf lessons available from PGA Class A instructors.
The club’s other dry-land sport is tennis. Chequessett Yacht & Country Club offers three artificial turf tennis courts. While members have unlimited privileges on the courts, the public can also play by utilizing the club’s walk-in tennis policy. In addition, the club offers a Junior Tennis Program to teach younger players to love the sport.
Next up, head out on the open water when you sail from the Chequessett boathouse out onto Cape Cod Bay. The club offers everything from a Junior Sailing Program for young beginners, to private lessons and racing regattas. Lessons are available to everyone, but only members can rent out the club boats.
Unlike some country clubs, Chequessett is open to families and couples who possibly never dreamed of joining such a club. While there are about 250 actual members, thousands of area residents and tourists also flock to the club every year. In addition, the club routinely hosts about 25 weddings each year, and offers up summer camps to hundreds of children on an annual basis. In Wellfleet this is a tradition that in some cases has been passed down through the generations.
