From its amazing views to its bountiful wildlife, Chatham Lighthouse Beach continues to be a favorite of locals and Cape visitors, alike. This sun-filled beach is full of options, from spotting area wildlife to climbing up and exploring Chatham Light.
Whether you imagine dipping your toes into the turquoise-hued water or simply lounging on the soft, white sand beach, there’s plenty to enjoy about Chatham Lighthouse Beach. Because the water near the shore is fairly shallow it warms up earlier in the season than it does at other beaches, making it a real Cape gem.
The shallow water and gentle slopes make the beach great for families, plus there’s even a marked area for swimmers. During season, the location is also great for clamming, giving beachgoers yet another option.
While you’re there, be sure and keep your eyes open for birds and other animals that make their home in the area. Commonly visitors are rewarded with sightings of piping plovers and seals. There are even some organized seal tours that offer an up close glimpse.
In addition, the nearby Chatham Light overlooks the sand and water, a unique site to explore all in itself. Be sure to climb up to the top of the peak for some of the best views. If yoga is more your speed, you can find that too. Beach yoga is available each morning during the summer season.
While a day at the beach may mean parking slightly farther away, if you just want to hit the sand for a few quick pictures, it’s easy to do. Up to 30-minute parking is available right in front of the beach.
No matter whether you’re hoping to go swimming in the cool water, clamming, wildlife viewing or simply want to get some exercise out on the sand, there’s no better place to explore than the soft white sand of Chatham Lighthouse Beach.
