Chatham & Harwich Music Strolls

Family-friendly entertainment is on tap all summer long with live music strolls in both Chatham and in Harwich Port. While the tradition has been a long-standing one in Harwich, the fun just spread to Chatham this summer season.

Dubbed Mondays on Main, the new Chatham addition brings musicians, bands and other types of live entertainment to Main Street. The Monday evening event stretches for eight weeks this summer, from locations including the Chatham Wine Bar to the rotary, and features a variety of themed nights designed to especially appeal to families.

Entertainers are stationed in courtyards, on lawns and on patios just off the main sidewalk to encourage visitors to enjoy the entire area. The idea is to give people a fun and unique way to experience downtown.

It’s also a chance to entice visitors to stroll down the sidewalk, with food vendors catering to the crowds. Appealing to those of all ages, the idea is to entice more people to come to Main Street on Monday evenings. In the past some in the community had noticed that business slowed down on certain days of the week, most visibly the beginning of the week.

The Monday night event also came about as to not create a conflict with an already popular version of weekly entertainment happening on Wednesday nights in Harwich Port. Port Summer Nights features a full line-up of bands and performers, with weekly events ranging from July 4 through the end of August.

The Harwich Port event was also first started to help promote the family-friendly appeal of Harwich and to provide more foot-traffic to area businesses. Chatham additionally presents its own live entertainment late in the week with free band concerts each Friday night. Those concerts kick off in late June and run through late August at Kate Gould Park.
