Chatham Airport is CQX

chatham airport mapThere’s no doubt that the Cape is a fantastic region to explore by boat, bike or hike, but there’s yet another choice in experiencing the vast scenery, this one soaring high above the rest. Chatham Airport has been a staple in the Chatham community for generations, once a great way to reach surfcasting off Monomoy, and now a site for aircraft rentals, flight instruction and the opportunity to experience Cape Cod in an entirely new way.

Classic bi-plane tours are now available through the airport, as are other sightseeing tours that soar over area beaches, Cape Cod main streets and historic sites around the region. Enjoy the breathtaking views during a round-trip excursion to Provincetown and back, while viewing sunken ships in the bay, local monuments or even sharks swimming off the coast.

Tours include a 15-minute long sightseeing tour over the Chatham area and Pleasant Bay, a half-hour trip over the lower cape from Chatham and Orleans to Provincetown, or a nearly hour-long flight that includes the lower Cape and Monomoy Island. This serves up a great way to see all of the area lighthouses and even wildlife and marine life. Choices range from a Skyhawk to a biplane.

You can even learn to fly out of Chatham Airport with ground and flight training that offers up a new experience for the more adventurous. Then, after you work up an appetite, be sure to check out the hangar B eatery for breakfast or lunch. Open from 7am to 2pm, the site serves up such popular favorites as locally sourced pancakes, French toast and fish tacos. You’ll also find an assortment of baked goods and organic fair trade hangar b coffee that’s roasted in Chatham.

More than just a local airfield, Chatham Airport is a unique experience for those living in and visiting the Cape Cod region.
