Cape Cod is full of fantastic beaches and historic sites, but one Cape attraction truly presents a great night out. The Cape Cod Symphony traces its roots back more than a half-century, now maintaining its role as one of the largest symphonies of its kind in the entire state of Massachusetts.

Around 75 musicians and soloists make up the symphony, which also brings in some guest artists. Past artists have included the Vienna Boys Choir and renowned cellist and prodigy Yo-Yo Ma.

Generally the artists take the stage at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis. The center is found within the campus of Barnstable High School. Upcoming productions include Haydn to Brahms later this month and a tribute to some of the most popular Broadway shows and songs in mid-February.

Other upcoming concerts include those recognizing the artistry of Don Quixote and certain American musicians. Meanwhile, past indoor productions have additionally celebrated the music of Nat King Cole and the holiday season, topped off by a traditional New Year’s Day Party and concert.

It’s also possible to catch a concert at an outdoor event held during the summer months. In particular, Symphony at the Seashore is planned for late August at the Salt Pond Visitor Center’s outdoor amphitheater in Eastham. The much-anticipated concert is free and open to the public.

In addition, the symphony also works within the local community to promote music education through things like Masters Classes, free concert talks and school programs, offering up the experience to some of the Cape’s youngest residents. Now part of the Cape Cod Conservatory, even more programs are planned for local residents to experience.

In addition to music, the conservatory also presents art, drama and dance classes in both Falmouth and in West Barnstable. Whether educating the public or simply providing a great night out, the Cape Cod Symphony plays a rich role in the local community.
