Cape Cod Road Races
There’s one way to see Cape Cod in an entirely new light, and if you’re up for a little adventure, it may be just what you’re looking for. Each year, several of the surrounding communities hold road races, for both runners and walkers. Here’s just a sample of what the area has to offer:
Chatham: NUN Run
In the Chatham area, look no further than the NUN Run. This 5K run/walk is held in October and raises money for Dream Day on Cape Cod, a family camp offered to kids with life threatening illnesses. Runners and walkers are encouraged to come in costume.
Chatham: Chatham Harbor Run
Another option for the Chatham area is the Chatham Harbor Run. Held in June, the run is more than six miles and the walk is around three miles. This run was cancelled in 2013 and 2014 due to ongoing construction on the Mitchell River Bridge. It is slated to return in 2016.
Chatham: Carnival Caper
A third option for the area is the Carnival Caper. Runners often come in costume, finishing the two-mile race with a round of beef stew. Participants run from Chatham Squire to the lighthouse, and then back again.
Harwich: Harwich 5K Road Race
As for Harwich, the Harwich 5K Road Race raises money to support health and fitness related programs and grants for kids in the Harwich community. It is held in June.
Harwich: Irish Pub Road Race
The Irish Pub Road Race is held in August in West Harwich. At just over five miles, race day also includes plenty of Irish bands and entertainment.
Harwich: Harwich Cranberry Harvest Half Marathon
October in Harwich brings with it the annual Harwich Cranberry Harvest Half Marathon. This is a 7.3-mile road race.
Dennis: Dennis Road Race
As for the town of Dennis, one option is the annual Dennis Road Race. This five-mile long run, three-mile walk, also includes a children’s fun run. Participants start and finish at Wixon Middle School.
Dennis: Andrea Holden Thanksgiving Race
Each Saturday following Thanksgiving, the community of Dennis joins together for the Andrea Holden Thanksgiving Race. Funds help kids in the Mid-Cape area, as well as provide college scholarships.
Brewster: The Barefoot 5K & 10K Beach Run
Finally, the town of Brewster offers The Barefoot 5K & 10K Beach Run. Not so much on the road as on the beach, this run takes participants through tidal streams and tidal pools.
Brewster: Brewster in Bloom Run
Brewster also holds the annual Brewster in Bloom Run and Community Festival. This 5K run begins at the Brewster Inn & Chowder House.
No matter which run you choose, you are sure to have a lot of fun, seeing the Cape in an entirely new light.
