Boston is a great place to call home, and that’s especially true for families. If you’re looking for a family-friendly neighborhood, you don’t have to look far. From great local schools to affordable homes, you’ll want to check out some of the city’s best neighborhoods for families.
East Boston
Budget-friendly home options and a family-friendly atmosphere make East Boston a great choice for families. The neighborhood is home to popular East Boston Memorial Park and Constitution Beach. You can also check out the natural beauty of Belle Isle Marsh Reservation or choose from one of the neighborhood’s many great places to grab a bite to eat.
Brighton
First-time homebuyers and young families are often drawn to Brighton. The laid-back neighborhood offers large playgrounds, easy river access and a quiet setting. It also offers some more affordable first homes and an easy commute.
West Roxbury
Found in southwest Boston, West Roxbury is also a good place for young families on a budget. Housing options range from apartments to condos and ranch-style homes. The neighborhood is also home to popular Millennium Park and some great local schools.
Hyde Park
A little farther out, Hyde Park is a quiet neighborhood that’s still an easy commute to downtown via rail. Because of its location, you’ll likely find more affordable homes in Hyde Park. The neighborhood is known for its great schools and for the sports fields, trails and fishing spots of Stony Brook Reservation.
Roslindale
Nearby Roslindale adds in the fun of Roslindale Village Main Street. It’s also a short trip to visit the family-friendly Franklin Park Zoo or the Arnold Arboretum.
Charlestown
If you’d rather live closer to downtown, consider Charlestown. Just to the north of downtown, the neighborhood offers up some great parks, museums and schools. It also has some family-friendly housing options, including apartments, lofts, condos and townhomes.
