Beverly Real Estate

Located on the North Shore 26 miles north of Boston, Beverly is a seaside community with a vibrant downtown area. Nicknamed “The Garden City” for its miles of coastline, public parks, and open spaces, Beverly attracts families and working professionals with its waterfront living and convenient commuting options to Boston. Picturesque homes and a college vibe from the presence of Endicott College and the Montserrat College of Art all add to Beverly’s appeal. Beverly comprises two islands — the Great and Little Misery Islands, as well as five beaches and many smaller coves. The western half of Beverly houses the downtown area while the eastern part of the city from Woodbury Point is more wooded and rural. The city spans 22.6 square miles with approximately 39,000 residents concentrated in several neighborhoods — Ryal Side, Beverly Farms, and Prides Crossing.   Read more about Beverly.

More About Beverly

Beverly Location

Beverly is bordered by Wenham to the north; Massachusetts Bay and Salem to the south; Manchester-by-the-Sea to the east and Danvers to the west. The Danvers River and Beverly Harbor separate Beverly and Salem with three different bridges connecting the two cities. Commuter Rail access to Boston and points south is available from five different rail stations while Beverly is also serviced by its own municipal airport.

Beverly Recreation

Beverly’s long stretch of coastline is an ideal setting for its two private yacht clubs. Boating enthusiasts enjoy everything from a busy regatta schedule and frequent fishing tournaments to a sailing school in support of the next generation of sailors.

Dane Street Beach is a favorite of locals for sunbathing and swimming in the gentle waters of the bay. The beach is part of Lyon’s Park so children can alternate splashing in the surf to swinging and sliding on the park’s playground.

For nature lovers, the Lynch Park Rose Garden is modeled after Italy’s most beautiful gardens. The Park serves as the perfect spot for prom and wedding photos, the latest Instagram shot, or just a picturesque stroll with a loved one.

Downtown Beverly offers a wealth of shops, eateries and a thriving music scene with the historic Larcom Theater and Chianti Restaurant. A short distance away, the award-winning North Shore Music Theatre entertains more than 250,000 patrons annually.

Beverly History

Beverly claims a number of firsts. It is often referred to as the “Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution” as the site of the first cotton mill in America in 1787. The town also served as the home of one of the country’s first Sunday schools built in 1810. Beverly enjoys a friendly rivalry with Marblehead for the title of “Birthplace of the U.S. Navy.” The first ship commissioned for the US military, the military schooner, Hannah, supposedly sailed from Beverly Harbor on September, 1775, although nearby North Shore towns continue to dispute this point.

In the early 1900s Beverly was the summer White House of President William Howard Taft. In fact, Beverly Hills, California, was named after Beverly Hills in 1907 because Taft vacationed there.

Today Beverly houses Cummings Center, a 77-acre corporate campus that leases space to more than 500 large and small businesses. Beverly’s appeal throughout the years has included notable full-time and summer residents such as the author John Updike; Kerry Healy, former lieutenant governor of Massachusetts; Ben Bradlee, the former editor of the Washington Post, and Alfred Marshall, the founder of the Marshall’s store chain.
